Unlock First-of-its-Kind Insights into Financial Wellbeing
At Hi Money, we know money is never just about numbers — it’s about people and the psychological forces shaping their decisions.
To understand more about financial behaviours, we commissioned Rich in Context, a first-of-its-kind report of 1,150 Australians and New Zealanders, revealing the social, cultural and psychological drivers behind financial wellbeing.
Our research helps financial institutions understand clients at a deeper human level: how they think, feel, and act around money — including the barriers, beliefs and biases influencing their choices.

Helping your employees and members
Financial stress doesn’t stay at home, it shows up at work.
When people are worried about money, it affects focus, productivity, wellbeing and retention.
Recent research from Te Ara Ahunga Ora Retirement Commission shows that a large proportion of New Zealanders are uncomfortable with their finances, and women in particular are feeling the squeeze. 62 % of women report feeling financially uncomfortable, compared with 51 % of men. retirement.govt.nz
These pressures are real, pervasive and costly for workplaces:
Many employees are worried about money weekly or more — taking mental space and energy away from the job. Newstalk ZB
Fewer than half of New Zealanders feel prepared for retirement, leaving long-term financial insecurity top-of-mind for many. Newstalk ZB
New Zealanders spend an average of 13 hours a month worrying about money, yet only 23% of employers are investing in the financial wellbeing of their staff - Mercer Talent Trends Report 2023.
And broader research indicates that over 80 % of women rate their financial wellbeing as moderate to very low in survey data on financial confidence. FSC
Hi Money’s Rich in Context research shows women are particularly affected:
Nearly twice as likely as men to experience frequent financial stress
20% of women experience financial stress impacting mental wellbeing weekly, compared with 12% of men
Only 22% of women say they never experience financial stress, versus 34% of men
Just 23% of women have consulted a financial adviser, compared to 35% of men
Only 40% of women feel that financial institutions understand their needs. Be the bank that does!
